Under direction, provides support for Circulation Operations including Stacks Maintenance, Paging & Searching, and Administrative duties. Participates in the recruitment and training of both staff and student employees.
Provides public service desk staffing, including material check-out service and account creation and management. Provides information services to users, including directional assistance, instruction in the use of the library catalogs, policy explanations, and service options. Responsible for opening and closing the Library at assigned times, and serving as a back-up for overseeing the safety and security of the Library, its users, and its collections, including assuming full responsibility for building evacuations and emergency response coordination in the absence of an Access Operations Supervisor.
Regular work week is Sunday-Thursday; Work schedule is Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 4:45PM - 12:15AM and Monday 3:45PM - 12:15AM. Must accommodate work schedule exceptions during expanded hours, holidays, intersessions, short staffing, and summer. This position is a designated closer.
Primary work location: Biomedical Library Building, La Jolla Main Campus.
Knowledge of the Library of Congress classification system and knowledge of basic preservation techniques used in handling library materials.
Demonstrated experience in a service-oriented work environment.
Strong interpersonal communication skills including the ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy with a diverse clientele.
Proven experience and ability to direct the work of other employees.
Ability to exercise independent and responsible judgment in making decisions. Experience following security procedures and handling emergency situations.
Skill in working as part of a team and maintaining collaborative working relationships.
