The Library Safety & Security Director, reporting to the Associate University Librarian, Enterprise Services, will oversee and direct safety and security operations for the UC San Diego Library, supervising library security staff and taking a leadership role in proposing and implementing safety and security policy at all library locations. Serve as a consultant and expert resource to the Library administration and staff and other campus departments. Design, develop and implement a comprehensive library wide safety, security and emergency preparedness program to protect lives and library property.
Coordinate safety, security, and emergency efforts and communication with a large staff network representing all levels of the Library. Work closely with campus contacts such as EH&S, Emergency Services, Campus Police, and the Fire department. Serve as Chair of the Library Safety and Security Committee (LSST). Collaborate with LSST and the Business & Employee Services to coordinate, develop, and provide library wide training on safety and security topics. Serve as liaison to UCSD campus police and coordinate library participation in police investigations.
Serve as primary after-hours contact for campus police and respond to all building alarms of an emergency or disaster nature 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
Coordinate security of Library buildings during special events.
Must be able to work extended hours and/or be on-call to respond to security issues and emergencies as needed.
Demonstrated experience managing and overseeing a large safety and security operation.
Proven experience developing safety and security programs. Experience with emergency preparedness management and training.
Experience developing, documenting, implementing, communicating, and enforcing safety and security policies, protocols and procedures, as well as providing training.
Knowledge of relevant security and safety policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective security operations for the protection of people, property, and buildings.
Strong supervisory and management skills. Skill in hiring, training, supervising, mentoring, developing and evaluating staff.
Strong knowledge of security systems, equipment, and technology.
Excellent verbal, written, public speaking and presentation communication skills.
Experience with safety and security management issues and services in an academic or related environment.
