Project IDA (International Deployment of Accelerometers)is a vigorous research group at the Cecil H. & Ida M. Green Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics (IGPP) which provides intellectual leadership in the field of global seismology. Project IDA is funded by a cooperative agreement between the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) and Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
This network serves as one of the fundamental tools for basic research used by academic geophysicists worldwide. The Project is responsible for maintaining the timely flow of data to the international research community and monitoring agencies, including the US National Earthquake Information Center, the International Tsunami Warning Center, and the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization. Responsibilities include identifying station performance problems affecting that data, coordinating appropriate corrective action, and ensuring that accurate metadata information are reported.
The Administrative Officer will provide high-level scientific management support to the principal investigator, staff and external contacts and program managers for the IDA group. Act as Business Manager while applying UCSD policies and procedures within Project IDA by analyzing, coordinating and supporting the programmatic and infrastructure activities of multiple contracts supporting the project. Provide award administration and budget analysis, and make projections and recommendations. Act as the Inventory and Safety Officer for Project IDA ensuring the adherence to UCSD policies and procedures and Federal and State laws.
The incumbent will oversee and track business operations of Project IDA including budget preparation, projections, monitoring and reporting. Act as point of contact for Project IDA. Conduct process improvement reviews and streamlines workflows. The incumbent will use professional concepts to apply organization policies and procedures to oversee a variety of ongoing administrative operational issues. Administer a defined operational program. Analyze and resolve operational problems.

Proven knowledge of Federal, State, and private agency funding regulations (NSF, DOE, NASA, ONR, NOAA, etc.) as it relates to travel and purchasing. Proven ability to read, interpret, and apply policies, rules, and regulations.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with staff verbally and in writing. Ability to interact effectively with wide variety of personalities and behavior patterns, exercising tact and diplomacy with emphasis on flexibility and professionalism.
Proven ability to clearly and effectively communicate in person, by telephone, and via email. Ability to speak to all levels of academic, staff, students, distinguished visitors and callers. Excellent listening skills.
