The University of California San Diego Rady School of Management provides business education through its PhD program, Masters degree programs, undergraduate minors and courses, and executive business seminars.

The Director of the Rady Career Development Center is responsible for the management, strategic planning, implementation, and development of all aspects of career-related services and programming for Rady School of Management graduate students including multiple Rady MBA programs, a Masters of Finance program, multiple Master of Science programs in Business Analytics, the Master of Professional Accountancy and other graduate business degree programs.
Two key responsibilities of this position are to develop new long term business relationships with employers to secure internship and employment opportunities for our students and to provide professional management of and partnership with a robust staff of 6 professional career advisors, 2 administrative staff, as well as independent contractors and part-time staff.
The Director sets objectives and plans strategies designed to provide the Rady School with the capability to provide internship, employment, and career planning to its consistent with a nationally ranked top-tier graduate business program. In addition to overseeing the management of staff, operations and budget of the Rady Career Development Center, the Director holds a small portfolio of graduate business students for professional career advising, maintains an active schedule of personal outreach to employers, and works as a team with our Director of Corporate Partners, Director of Graduate Recruitment and Admissions, Director of Graduate Student Affairs, and the faculty and executive directors of our graduate programs to ensure alignment with Rady's strategic goals.
The Director promotes a positive, productive, student-focused work environment, collaborates with staff on policy and process improvements and the use of technology, balances workload, sets clear and reasonable performance standards, and ensures staff have the training and resources needed.
Importantly, the position serves as the expert on reporting employment data based on the revered, national MBA CSEA standards related to graduate business degree programs (MBA Career Services and Employer Alliance/MBA CSEA). These data responsibilities include interpretation and teaching of standards to Rady faculty, leadership, and staff as well as planning and directing data collection, analysis, and reporting of this data. The integrity and timeliness of the employment data is all-important to the Rady School's reputation due to the data's impact on national rankings of graduate business programs.
Experience at a bricks-and-mortar graduate business school in a large university setting, directing, presenting, organizing and evaluating career programming for diverse MBA students (part-time, midcareer, and full time), and/or other graduate business degree students (such as Finance, Business Analytics, Accounting).
Supervisory experience: hiring, coaching, evaluating, training professional career advisors and support staff. Experience introducing an atmosphere of customer service excellence and team collaboration. Experience maintaining a positive work environment, monitoring productivity, workload, and quality of work, setting clear and reasonable performance standards and developing staff to their highest potential.
At least five (5) years of management experience in a university creating policies, formulating strategies to deliver targeted career-related programming, implementing process improvements, and facilitating cross-departmental relationships and efficiencies.
Recent membership in the MBA Career Services and Employer Alliance (MBA CSEA). Up-to-date facility with MBA CSEA employment data standards and data collection, analysis, and reporting. Experience leading the resolution of thorny issues of employment outcome data.
Master's degree in student affairs, career/educational counseling, higher education administration, human resources, organizational behavior or similar terminal degree (such as MBA, Doctorate in Education) or similar experience.*
Demonstrated experience conceptualizing, implementing and managing new programs based on departmental goals and strategies for a sophisticated, specialty audience.
Experience delivering tangible results and meeting metrics related to career programs, employment, and internships. Experience and the ability to and collaborate with staff on strategies, outcomes, and metrics to ensure alignment towards goals.
Experience cultivating new relationships with the business community and other employers related to employment and internship possibilities. Experience interacting with high profile employers resulting in internship and employment opportunities and strong metrics regarding employment upon graduation. Experience identifying the varying needs of employers for business graduates and alums and relaying that information in a cogent, persuasive manner for strategic discussions with managers, faculty, leadership, colleagues, students, and others.
Experience providing career advising particularly to international students as well as supervising career advisors providing career advice to international students. Experience developing policies and program to help acclimate international students to US business etiquette, culture, customs. Experience leading the OPT & CPT process, creating departmental policies regarding OPT/CPT and logistics.
Proven experience leading IT implementations and solutions to solve operational problems, resulting efficiencies. Experience analyzing data to enhance programming, create efficiencies, track performance.
Demonstrated experience presenting information and working as a team with academic leadership and faculty; rapport-building skills.
Extensive experience presenting career development advising and information to individuals, small groups, and large groups. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills. Professional poise suitable to a business environment, diplomacy and tact.
Experience conducting Admissions/Recruitment activities, responding to questions about internships and future employment from prospective applicants
Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.
This management position is exempt. It is not eligible for overtime pay.
Must be willing and able to travel occasionally overnight and multi-night domestically and rarely internationally.
Occasional evenings and weekends may be required due to employer outreach events, special events, graduation, panel discussions, etc.
Must have access to reliable transportation to visit employers, corporate partners, conferences, attend career fairs, career events, etc.
