The Student Health and Well-being (SHW) cluster of the UC San Diego Health System plays a leadership role in creating a strong and active wellness culture at UC San Diego that enables all students to flourish in body, mind and spirit. This includes promotion and the expansion/development of a student health and well-being center, and the transformation of existing departments under the oversight of the Executive Director into a cohesive, multi-disciplinary source of integrated wellness services.
The SHW cluster includes the departments of Student Wellness Administration (SWA), Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Health Promotion Services (HPS) and Student Health Services (SHS). Clinical and mental health, and health education services are provided to over 38,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional students.
This position will coordinate analytical support for SHW clinical and business operations along with quality initiatives, including business analytics/performance metrics. Defines systems and applications to support various functions. Provides customer service, troubleshooting and maintenance to report users. Independently acquires and applies additional skills and knowledge of professional concepts in clinical informatics to complex projects. Obtains training necessary to query data from the Epic report databases, namely Clarity and Cabooble.
May perform queries of this database for research studies as well. Analytic development will focus on Epic data, Student Enrollment and UCSD financial systems requiring merging of datasets.
Performs advanced statistical analysis, prepares graphs/charts, writes reports, participates in preparation of various reports and presentations. Scope includes real-time reporting within Epic, SQL programming and vizualization layer leveraging Tableau and other tools. Involves the development and implementation of the organization's information systems and tools that are applied to clinical information. Works closely with clinicians across the SHW departments to optimize effective use of systems. Coordinates analytical support for health management, including profiling, health economics, and business analytics/performance metrics. Defines systems and applications to support various functions.
Applies skills and experience as a seasoned clinical informatics professional to projects of medium size at all levels of complexity, or portions of large projects. Works with business, technical, and clinical personnel to develop and implement complex clinical informatics solutions and to create integrated architecture to ensure optimal use of tools and components. Collaborates closely with business operations, healthcare clinicians, and IT applications and technical teams to translate operations workflow and patient experience objectives into technical requirements. Works on project teams that include business and clinical staff to improve clinical informatics planning and systems and to develop metrics and analytics that support health management in making decisions for upgrades and modifications that are cost-effective, scalable, and meet present and future needs.
A Bachelor's Degree in healthcare information technology, computer science, or related area; and/or equivalent combination of experience/training.
Three (3+)or more years of relevant professional level experience working with clinical information systems and developing reports.
Demonstrated knowledge and intermediate level experience working with Transact SQL, Crystal Reports 11, OLAP structures , Business Objects, Tableau, Cognos, SAS and/or other related technologies.
Broad and/or in-depth knowledge of 1-2 areas of focus in clinical informatics specialty areas. Knowledge of controlled terminology, clinical workflows, user interface optimization, clinical decision support, rules development, data integration and mining, clinical ontologies and adoption of technology.
Thorough knowledge of all relevant clinical informatics software and technology, and the complex concepts, principles, policies, methodologies, and industry standards and practices involved with patient care and electronic medical data management in the UC health care system.
Knowledge and intermediate level experience working with T-SQL or other equivalent SQL database query language and tools, and reporting tools such as Crystal Reports, Business Objects Web Intelligence, Tableau, Cognos, SAS and other related tools.
Detail oriented, with proven ability to effectively manage time, see projects through to completion, organize competing priorities, and effectively address complex, urgent issues as they arise.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate productively, work in a team environment, and to train and support clinical informatics users at all professional and technical levels throughout the medical center.
Ability to work with senior staff and managers in clinical information technology, health care management, and business analytics, serving as a technical resource and providing advice and counsel on issues of functionality, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, policy, and performance.
Certified in assigned EMR vendor's product/module within the first six (6) months of employment.
- One (1+) or more of the following EPIC certifications: Clarity Ambulatory Data Model, Clarity Profession Billing, Radar, Reporting Workbench, COGITO,
- Advanced level experience with database management and various third-party report building/visualization tools such as Tableau, Crystal Reports, Cognos, SAS, and others.
- Demonstrated experience in a large, complex healthcare environment.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs, such as evenings and weekends.
- Occasional travel may be required.
