Under the direction of the Associate Director and the Operations Manager and Communications Lead, responsible for contributing to new and ongoing research projects by serving as liaison between the research programs, Design Lab Directors, and public; applying programmatic knowledge to make short and long-range planning recommendations on new and ongoing research projects, develop preliminary budgets for proposals, planning large research group events including technical coordination of demonstrations, participating in the development of new initiatives, arranging meetings among current and potential investors and with industry partners; managing complex meeting calendars for project participants, coordinating and executing arrangements for meetings, seminars, and conferences.

Provide high-level support for Design Lab Collaborative and special projects of a complex nature, coordinating relations with faculty, staff, students, private industry, and government organizations, organizing and prioritizing project reports and information requests for timely completion, troubleshooting and independently resolving assorted operational problems, acting as a liaison for project directors with vendors, campus units, public and private agencies, and national/international colleagues.

  • Occasional off-campus meetings and events.

  • Reliable transportation required.

  • Some overtime required for special events.


  • Working knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs.

  • Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Proficient in ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.

  • Demonstrates ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.

  • Demonstrates ability to analyze, research and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.

  • Proficient in ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.

  • Working knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.

  • Demonstrated skill in using personal computers and a wide variety of software packages for word-processing, spreadsheets, database processing, presentations, web and publication design, and calendaring (e.g. Microsoft Office suite, Adobe suite, Corporate Time, etc.). Knowledge of e-mail systems as a primary form of communication; accomplished skill at navigating the Internet for information retrieval.

  • Experience working in an academic institution or large organization.

  • Prior project management experience.
