Please note that this position is a part-time appointment.


Under general supervision, the Content Developer will conceptualize, write, edit, proofread and disseminate complex material for various department websites. Review for tone, usability and written content quality, and facilitate appropriate enhancement. Collect and analyze feedback to web environments, formulate appropriate content recommendations.

Research, prepare, write, and edit online content for marketing and front-end web development, including blog posts, static copy, and video content. Develop and maintain search engine optimizing and HTML formatting and has experience with WordPress, Photoshop, flash, asana and other web content platforms. Researches, selects sources for and conducts interviews, and ensures accuracy of written pieces. Recommends content and layout, edits, and coordinates production of a variety of printed and online material, or conversion of printed pieces to online formats and archives. Develops website layout and facilitates and maintains web site transitions to updated platforms.

This is an exciting opportunity for a self-driven, experienced web content developer to have an impact on the web presence of the Orthopaedic Surgery Department within UC San Diego Health Sciences. The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is dedicated to inspiring students, residents, fellows and faculty to work towards discovery of the knowledge, attitudes, skills, and resources needed to deliver quality patient care that is responsive to the general needs of the local community as well as meeting the specialized needs of the world. Further, the Department is determined to provide comprehensive orthopaedic medical and surgical care to a broad range of patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.


  • Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration or related area; and/ or equivalent experience/ training.

  • Proficient experience with WordPress, Photoshop, flash asana and other web content platforms. Experience developing and maintaining search engine optimizing (SEO) and HTML formatting.

  • Strong skills to write clear, lively, engaging and compelling copy in a variety of styles appropriate to target audiences and/or the broader public, while ensuring adherence to the location's message.

  • Thorough knowledge of the location, including its mission, goals, achievements, infrastructure, programs, and policies.

  • Thorough knowledge of issues in higher education, a specialized academic discipline or field and/or health sciences.

  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.

  • Proven knowledge of the fundamentals of writing, grammar, syntax, style, and punctuation.

  • Strong knowledge of appropriate editorial style and publication guidelines.

  • Proficient experience in computer applications for publishing, image handling, and / or web production.

  • Demonstrated research and fact verification skills.

  • Advanced skilled in the proofreading, editing, content style, flow and tone of informational materials.

  • Strong interpersonal communications skills, including active listening and effective collaboration skills.

  • Superb attention to detail, project management and organizational skills.

  • Skill to maintain confidentiality.


  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
