The fifth floor (5 FG) of Jacobs Medical Center is a 24 bed Medical Oncology/Palliative Care PCU Progressive Care Unit. It is a 12-bed pod dedicated to patients in need of aggressive symptom management. The nurses will work closely with a multi-disciplinary palliative care team. A holistic approach will be used to relieve physical, psychosocial, emotional or spiritual suffering.

Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care. All performance expectations associated with this position are performed at the PRACTITIONER Level.


  • RN License issued by the State of California.
  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART w/in 6 months of hire date.
  • ART or ACLS certification at time of hire with commitment to get ART within 6 months of hire date.
  • Must have Chemotherapy Certification, or commitment to get within 6 months of hire date.
  • Must have a minimum of one (1) year of current acute care inpatient RN experience.
  • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing.


  • BSN.
  • Two (2) years of RN experience in acute care PCU, Med/Surg and/or Telemetry.
  • Prior experience with Chemotherapy.
  • PCCN, ONS Certifications.


  • Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and various locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.
