DESCRIPTION

The BMT Nurse Manager position leads and supervises the BMT outpatient team including LVNs, RNs (Transplant Coordinators, Clinic Nurse Case Managers). Includes weekend/ holiday coverage for coordinating sick-call coverage. The Nurse Manager is responsible for supervising, organizing, planning, assessing and monitoring the medical services provided by UC San Diego Health System and BMT Division (both transplant and malignant hematology patient populations). Position works in conjunction with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to assure that patients are receiving the best medical, nursing, and psychosocial care possible. Position ensures administrative efficiencies through the medical service areas, including recruitment, onboarding, coaching and performance management. Position works independently in monitoring the day-to-day operations with minimal supervision.

This BMT Nurse Manager is also a liaison to the Moores Cancer Center management and the Clinic and Infusion Services Directors for the daily operations of the Multi-Specialty Clinic on the second floor. This position facilitates an atmosphere of interactive management and the development of collegial relationships among nursing personnel and other healthcare staff and faculty. A key responsibility of this position is to foster effective communication and teamwork and to promote a high functioning productive team in a supportive work environment.

This position assumes HR responsibilities of directly supervising staff, ensuring staff competence, evaluating staff, counseling staff including disciplinary actions, screening potential new hires and assisting with the interviewing and hiring of new employees, and effectively interfacing with both faculty physicians and divisional physician leadership. This position works collaboratively with the physician and MCC leadership to ensure safe, effective, timely, and high quality care delivery and operational excellence. Position has frequent independent judgment in monitoring the day-to-day operation of the units with minimal administrative assistance/ supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN).

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California.

  • BLS/CPR and ACLS certification at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six months of hire date.

  • Seven or more years of relevant experience, including at least five years of recent RN experience.

  • Minimum of two years working in a charge, supervisory or management level position in a Blood and Marrow Transplant Program.

  • Experience working with FACT standards including the accreditation/ reaccreditation process and other regulatory requirements.

  • Strong clinic/center patient care management skills.

  • Practice management knowledge in scheduling, customer-service methods, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, and/or information technology.

  • Broad knowledge of patient population served and the requirements for the delivery of services.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must have decision making, problem solving and prioritizing skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) or health related field.
  • Two years or more working with FACT regulatory standards.
  • OCN/BMTCN Certification.

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Must be willing to work overtime if required.
