The Assistant Nurse Manager is involved in ensuring optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership and/or provision of patient care delivery in assigned nursing area(s). Promotes environment for a shared voice in nursing practice and exchange of ideas to continually improve nursing and patient care outcomes. Accountable for the quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness of patient care. Consults and collaborates with other health care professionals to coordinate the management of patient care. Serves as a resource to staff, physicians, students and others.
Supervises staff involved in providing clinical patient care. Assists in ensuring the quality of patient care delivery in a specific patient care area and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice. Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources. May assume full responsibility for the unit in delegated areas and in the absence of the manager.
Our Surgical ICU at UC San Diego Medical Center serves a designated Level 1 Trauma Center, and treats approximately 2,000 Neuro, Ortho, Spine, and General Surgery patients a year. The physicians, nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, and trauma techs work as a compassionate team that places the greatest value on bedside care, driven by evidence-based practice.
This role is an exciting leadership opportunity to support quality, trauma resuscitation, charge nurse, evaluation, staff education and customer service.

A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN).
Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of California.
BLS/CPR and ACLS certification at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.
Five years of RN experience required including two (2) years of recent inpatient acute care ICU and/or trauma RN experience.
Demonstrated hospital management skills, with progressive expertise in patient care services.
Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills.
Must have ability to function in a high paced environment and must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Clinical area certification or Nursing Administration Certification (i.e. CCRN, TNCC).
Charge Nurse and/or supervisory experience.
Demonstrated experience as a trauma resuscitation nurse.
