This position will provide patient care coverage 7 days a week, including various holidays, for various UC San Diego Health Express Care and Urgent Care Clinics. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will primarily provide patient care for UCSD Primary Care, Family Medicine, and Internal Medicine patients at Express Care clinics. The NP will follow standardized advanced practice procedure guidelines to provide follow through with the care plan.
Collaborate judgment with off-site physician is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care for Express Care patients. Collaborate on-site with physician as needed at Urgent Care. Under general supervision, the NP performs operational level duties as described in the UCSD Performance Policy. The major emphasis of this position is direct patient care delivery. Assignments at this level primarily encompass management of patients who present chronic and/or episodic health problems. Assignments may include responsibility for occasional community teaching programs, participation in program planning and development of patient education information.

The selected candidate will be required to work at our various Express Care locations in Carmel Valley, Eastlake, Encinitas, and downtown San Diego. The selected candidate may also be required to work in Urgent Care as needed (La Jolla and Rancho Bernardo).
UC San Diego Health's Pacific Highlands Ranch Clinic in Carmel Valley is scheduled to open Summer 2020. Express Care is a walk-in option for common health care needs including coughs and colds, sore throats, ear infections, and simple fractures or sprains as well as wellness visits for certain kinds of prescriptions or camp or school health screenings.
Completion of an accredited Family Nurse Practitioner Program (FNP).
California Registered Nurse (RN) license, California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license, and Furnishing License Certification.
Current NP Specialty Certification from one of the following Nursing Boards: AANP, ANCC, NCC, PNCB, AACN.
BLS/CPR and ACLS certification at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.
Current PALS certification, or required to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
Minimum two (2) years recent working NP experience, including experience in Primary Care and/or Urgent Care. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, work experience must be within the past two years.
Demonstrated ability to manage own patient load.
Must be able to work within a team environment.
Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Experience performing procedures such as suturing, stapling, I&D, and toenail removal.
EKG and basic radiology interpretation.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
- Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment.
- Current University of California NPIII employees may be hired at the NPIII level pending review and approval by Health Human Resources and the UCSD Advanced Practice Council.
