The Department of Family Medicine and Public Health has approximately 100 salaried faculty and is comprised of seven divisions: Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, Family Medicine, Health Policy, Global Health, Preventive Medicine, and Behavioral Health. Our mission is to improve Public Health through preventive, behavioral, epidemiologic and clinical research, education and clinical care.

Our patient care is provided at several locations across the county as well as through multiple initiatives with the medically underserved in our community and includes training of over 60 residents and fellows. With over $125 million in research grants and contracts, our award-winning faculty conduct innovative Public Health research at the intersection of behavioral and medical sciences to assess and understand chronic disease etiology, improve human health and prevent disease at the individual and population level.

The AUTO Study is designed to learn more about older drivers and factors that influence their decisions about driving. We also want to look at the affects that family members, trusted friends, and healthcare providers play in supporting older drivers in making these decisions.

Under supervision, the research assistant will be responsible for providing research support for the Auto Study program. Responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the study. Responsibilities include but not limited to: recruiting, screening, explaining study procedures to prospective participants, and obtaining written consent. Incumbent will also be responsible for data collection, data entry as well as organization and review of the data collection tools.


  • Theoretical knowledge in public health, biology, psychology, physical activity epidemiology or related field such as is typically acquired by a Bachelor's degree.

  • Demonstrated ability to complete forms thoroughly and accurately and to accurately record data on paper and on a computer.

  • Proficient computer skills, using data entry, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Access, PowerPoint), internet and data management software.

  • Demonstrated experience with data management, including familiarity with quality control of data.

  • Strong experience in public speaking, preparing and delivering presentations, planning and facilitating group events.

  • Good interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility including experience in interacting effectively with diverse groups, such as professional and non-professional staff.

  • High level of initiative and organizational ability, including ability to work independently, to prioritize work to meet deadlines, and to handle problems, propose solutions, and implement them.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
