DESCRIPTION

UCSD Department of Psychiatry is one of the most innovative and productive academic departments of psychiatry in the country with cutting-edge research and state-of-the-art clinical services. Under supervision, the incumbent will assist the PI and research team with a study on Alzheimer's Disease using neuroimaging, neuropsychological assessment, and pupillometry. Primary responsibilities include coordinating participant recruitment with collaborating facilities and community agencies; participant eligibility screening; conducting clinical interviews; collecting data by administering behavioral measures and neuropsychological assessments and administering pupillometry measures and audiometric evaluations; and assisting with neuroimaging sessions. Duties also include obtaining informed consent/HIPAA; collecting, scoring, uploading, and managing study data; scheduling and study participant appointments. General lab assistance duties include maintaining equipment and supplies and preparing data collection packets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from high school or a GED and two (2) years of laboratory experience or two (2) years of college including courses in Psychology or a related field and one (1) year of laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to prioritize workload and work independently.

  • Strong effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

  • Proven ability to effectively communicate with a diverse population.

  • Proficiency in using web-based database platforms and strong computing skills using Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel, and Powerpoint).

  • Ability to maintain and protect confidentiality of participant information.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience operating MRI scanners and completing assessment protocols.
  • Experience administering detailed clinical interviews including socioeconomic status, academic achievement, medical and mental history, and current/past substance use information.
  • Experience administering and scoring neuropsychological assessments.
  • Previous experience in a research setting involving older adults.
  • Experience setting up and taking down equipment used during MRI scan sessions.
  • Knowledge of or experience in collecting biological specimens including saliva, hair, and urine samples according to a standardized protocol and following universal precautions.
  • Experience collecting, coding, and scoring data using computerized and pencil and paper measures according to study protocol.
  • Working knowledge of MRI safety. Experience screening MRI subjects for MRI contraindications.
  • Ability to maintain current MRI Safety Training and Mock Scanner operation certification.
  • Training and proficiency in participant data collection using a pupilometer.
  • Basic familiarity with Linux in order to process neuroimaging data, content collaboration software (such as OneDrive), and E-Prime.
