#97973 Senior Director - Compliance

Reporting directly to the Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer (CCPO) of UC San Diego Health, the Senior Director, Compliance will be responsible for exercising independent judgment and overseeing operations for a range of teams and projects within UC San Diego Health Compliance Advisory Services (CAS). The Senior Director will oversee the work of managers, program managers, select senior analysts and other staff.

The Senior Director will lead CAS’s operations and logistics, assisting managers (including those which do not report to him/her directly) develop action plans and delegate assignments appropriately. Examples include policy development/ management, contract management processes, attestations, site visit compliance, compliance investigations, human subject research compliance, etc. In overseeing and supervising these various groups, the Senior Director will be responsible for allocating resources as needed. He/she will also be responsible for assisting with staff professional development, evaluating team members, identifying where they are best suited, and serving as the point person for HR matters.

The Senior Director will serve as a resource for compliance investigations and will report out on all active and closed investigations. He/she will research and analyze the complex compliance inquiries, including but not limited to, medical center activities, policy violations, alleged compliance- related misconduct, and other compliance-related matters. Responsible for conducting and supervising highly sensitive, critical, confidential, and time sensitive investigations, inquiries, and analyses.

The Senior Director will execute a wide-range of Compliance Advisory Services projects with and at the direction of the CCPO. He/she will coordinate internal and external education, communication, and acculturation activities. The Senior Director will collaborate with numerous University and Health System employees including, but not limited to, Internal Auditors, Campus Counsel, Campus Compliance Officers and Human Resource personnel. He/she will be the point person for organizing the annual University of California Office of the President (UCOP)-directed UC San Diego Health Compliance Risk Assessment with various teams and additional projects as they arise.

The Senior Director must have a proven record demonstrating a wide range of interpersonal skills and exceptional communication abilities to direct and manage a diverse, highly skilled staff of subject matter experts to very high engagement and optimal work/life-balance productivity. The Senior Director will oversee all budget proposals from teams and help determine needs such as equipment, subscriptions, conferences, third party vendor requirements, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of experience/ training.

  • Minimum of eight (8+) or more years of relevant experience in a complex healthcare or social services setting.

  • Certified in Healthcare Compliance, or ability and agreement to secure within 18 months of hire.

  • Advanced knowledge of the compliance and ethics profession, theories, and standards.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse team of high functioning subject matter experts.

  • Proven skills and emotional intelligence to build and maintain a team at very high engagement and optional productivity with work/life balance.

  • Excellent communications skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Juris Doctorate Degree preferred.
  • Ten (10+) or more years of relevant experience in a complex healthcare or social services setting.
  • Experience in Academic Medicine preferred.
  • Experience in Governmental setting preferred.
