Under supervision, the incumbent will support the research efforts of various studies involving brain development and behavioral assessment in children conducted within the UCSD Center for Human Development and affiliated facilities. Primary responsibilities include: assisting with behavioral and MRI data collection, performing data entry and database maintenance, scoring and processing of collected data, obtaining informed consent and assent, helping student assistants learn behavioral assessment tools, and supervising and playing with children during data collection.

  • Must be able to work weekends and some holidays.

  • Must be able to work occasional overtime and/or flexible schedule.

  • Must be able to travel to different locations as needed. Must have dependable transportation.

  • Willing to occasionally travel to local research study sites.


  • Graduation from high school or a GED and two (2) years of laboratory experience or two (2) years of college including courses in Psychology, Human Development, or related field and one (1) year of laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated experience working with research with human participants, including direct contact with children, or experience testing or teaching children.

  • Proven experience with human subject research and following research protocols. Familiarity with scientific method and research design.

  • Strong computer use skills including familiarity with a variety of operating systems and programs.

  • Proven ability to work in a team environment while also having strong independent work skills upon proper training.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with investigators, research assistants, research participants and families.

  • Strong attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to prioritize. Ability to maintain confidentiality of participant information.


  • Job offer is contingent upon a satisfactory clearance based on background check results.

  • TB test and clearance is required.

  • Must be physically able to be present in the MRI scan room to assist in preparing subjects for scans; therefore, individuals who have certain metal devices in their bodies or any contraindication for MRI are excluded from consideration for this position.

This position is a Mandatory CANRA (Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act) Reporter - must review and sign an acknowledgement of status and reporting obligations.
