Employees in this position perform specialized duties that require knowledge of recognized therapeutic methods for resolution of occupational and or psychological problems using formal training in assessment, evaluation, and interpretation of behavioral health issues.
An understanding of human growth and development, and the ability to distinguish between psychological/emotional health and psychiatric disability is required. Knowledge and skill in clinical interviewing, crisis intervention and debriefing, management consultation, violence prevention education, program planning and development, and addictions screening and referral required. Specialized knowledge of industry standards for employee assistance programming and adult behavioral health care across the lifespan is required.
FSAP staff use psychological techniques to interview, appraise, and formulate goals for problem resolution for academic and staff employees, retirees and members of employees families. Organize, structure, and conduct educational workshops, team interventions, support groups.
Train individuals or units in identification of problem behavior and appropriate referral methods. Provide consultation to supervisors and managers. Assess emergent and urgent situations and recommend solutions. Case manage, professionally refer and follow-up for in-patient/outpatient treatment. Prepare and maintain confidential case files.
Maintain professional mental health license through continuing education and adherence to legal and ethical standards of the State of California and industry specific associations.
Demonstrated thorough knowledge and understanding of clinical counseling principles, methods, procedures, and standards.
A minimum of a Master's Degree in mental/behavioral health field from an accredited university plus three and five (3 - 5) years post-licensure experience as a professional licensed mental health provider in the State of California.
Proven one to three (1 - 3) years of full-time, career (non-internship) Employee Assistance Program experience with and knowledge of salient trends in Employee Assistance and Applied Behavioral Health.
Thorough knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to patients' rights. Demonstrated knowledge of and responsibility for upholding laws governing the practice of mental health and behavioral health care in the State of California.
Ability to evaluate the progress of therapeutic approach and modify as necessary. Ability to work in a clinically self-sufficient manner with adults, employee groups, faculty members, international employees, retirees and household members.
Demonstrated ability to evaluate behavioral conditions that impact and/or impede work performance and relational functioning, and to assess severity in order to treat or refer appropriately.
Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops. Skill to constructively guide and teach adults, to speak confidently in public and to work effectively in groups or teams of adult employees, including faculty members. Skill in group design, planning, facilitation and evaluative documentation.
Strong skill in analyzing, planning and implementing clinical interventions based on knowledge of theory of human behavior, human systems and organizational change. Skill in the management of serious incidents including suicide intervention, accidents/illnesses, death/loss, self-injurious behaviors, and threat assessment practices.
Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner with diverse client group. Skill to effectively and competently work from a broad definition of diversity; think logically and choose creative and compassionate clinical interventions without undue influence from personal bias, stereotype or stigma.
Highly effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to tactfully and effectively communicate with faculty and staff from all areas of the university community or similar academic institutions.
Proven ability to quickly grasp concepts, understand concepts and situations, and offer creative solutions to problems of human functioning.
Demonstrated knowledge of business software and specialized applications/systems used in behavioral health settings. Including experience with tele-mental health.
Highly effective problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Ability to use good clinical judgment and professional boundaries when assessing, treating and counseling employees.
