The Project Manager is responsible for identifying opportunities for organizational enhancement, organizing and leading multidisciplinary teams of senior management personnel, establishing goals and objectives, leading execution, and institutionalizing changes thereby evolving and improving the organization.
Position will lead projects and programs in the areas of:
- Health System general management
- Growth and productivity enhancement
- Financial integrity and revenue cycle improvement
- Operational excellence and efficiency
- Hospital network and affiliate development
This position is part of UC San Diego Health project management office and works directly with the Director of Project Management Office (PMO), hospital Chief of Staff, and collaboratively with senior management to direct the planning, design, and implementation of strategic projects with the underlying strategic goal of creating a world class academic medical system focused on patient experience, clinical excellence, performance management, and growth. The project management office works in parallel with the strategy and finance offices ensuring the implementation of strategic objectives are carried through seamlessly.
This is a high-level general management/project management position in an extremely demanding academic medical center environment that requires strong leadership and interpersonal skills, and a comprehensive understanding of all elements of health care delivery, including strategy, business planning, operations, workforce challenges, and financial considerations. Incumbent requires excellent project management skills including organization of complex data sets, establishment of aggressive but realizable goals aligned with organizational strategic objectives, visionary leadership of diverse groups’ senior level individuals, maniacal attention to implementation detail, and the ultimate ability to institutionalize gains achieved into the ongoing fabric of the organization.
The incumbent’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead large enterprise-wide change management efforts related to the health system initiatives.
- Create, develop, and deliver change management strategy for complex projects. This includes, but is not limited to, using the methodology to identify resistance, performance gaps, and the development and implementation of corrective actions to close those gaps.
- Manage the relationships and interfaces with multiple departments by acting as a liaison with Senior Leadership and initiative champions.
- Advise on the implications of the organization's plans and actions.
- Make recommendations on factors that may influence change adoption and sustainability.
- Support and build a culture of process improvement and efficient use of resources at all levels of the University.
A Bachelor's Degree; or an equivalent level of education/training
Five (5+) or more years of relevant experience health care related field. Experience must include overseeing and managing the planning, design, and implementation of large-scale projects with significant financial targets.
Demonstrated thorough knowledge of the organizational development and effectiveness field, theories, models to assess, design and implement customized organizational interventions.
Proven ability to manage numerous diverse projects simultaneously through effective priority setting, efficient use of time, and organization. Ability to initiate and manage projects effectively, using a positive, flexible, consultative and supportive approach.
Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral presentation at all levels with the skills to produce comprehensive reports, management information and insight and proposals that win key stakeholder buy-in and support.
Experience in a healthcare environment.
Advanced Degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience; MBA, MPH, MHA.
Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification.
Knowledge of accreditation standards and regulations related to health care.
Experience of strategy development and implementation, with evidence of continuing professional development.
A strong track record of delivering against demanding targets with evidence of success in an operational environment.
Strong understanding of structured project management processes and how they work in a complex environment.
High degree of computer literacy and competence in use of Microsoft Office including the ability to build and develop persuasive advanced PowerPoint presentations.
Analysis of data and processes for opportunities for improvement.
Responsive, innovative and seek out opportunities to create value.
Objective, use sound judgment, evidence and knowledge to provide accurate, expert and professional advice when making decisions.
Highly motivated, numerate, logical thinker, with a passion for strategic thinking and applying quantitative rigor to unstructured problems in the context of business decision making.
