Collaborate with clinicians and vision scientists on clinical research of glaucoma at UCSD and other study centers. Responsibilities include scheduling of subjects, subject testing, and data collection (filing, evaluation, analysis and reporting) for a variety of studies simultaneously. Coordinate, assist and train personnel in the operation of clinical and research instruments for assessment of visual function, physiology and anatomy in normal subjects and glaucoma patients. Maintain database programs and produce reports using IBM and Macintosh computers.


  • Theoretical background in physiology or biology.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform diagnostic eye tests.

  • Strong ability to communicate clearly, verbally, and in writing. Ability to communicate in person and by telephone.

  • Excellent ability to work with variety of individuals including elderly patients, faculty, clinicians, staff and students in a medical setting.

  • Thorough knowledge of software programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Filemaker Pro, and JMP.

  • Strong organizational abilities. Excellent attention to detail.

  • Works well independently with little supervision.


  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology associated with glaucoma.
  • Familiarity with computer network operations.
  • Ability to operate a PC including Macintosh and IBM operations: word-processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation and statistical software.
  • Knowledge of various examination protocols.
