The Moores Cancer Center is one of just 49 in the United States to hold a National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation as a Comprehensive Cancer Center. As such, it ranks among the top centers in the nation conducting basic and clinical cancer research, providing advanced patient care and serving the community through outreach and education programs.

The Cancer Center's mission is to translate promising scientific discoveries into new and better options for the care of patients with cancer. The Center supports one of the broadest ranges of cancer activities in the nation – from fundamental and translational cancer research in molecular genetics and advanced molecular therapeutics, and from population studies of cancer incidence to community education about cancer prevention and risk reduction.

Under general supervision, serve as a research technician and laboratory manager. Make significant innovative contributions pertaining to the construction of adenoviral types 5 and 35. Conduct and analyze experiments using adenoviral types 5 and 35 and recombinant derivatives to exploit tumor specific biochemical pathways including p53, retinoblastoma and other oncogenic pathways. Design, construct and manipulate large cloning plasmids in order to produce novel recombinant adenovirus containing CD154 and TNF molecules.

Analyze and manipulate the adenoviral type 5 and 35 genomes in order to subclone genes of interest into the recombinant virus for in vitro and in vivo assays. Perform cell biology assays including adenoviral plaque assays, TCID 50, real time qPCR analysis, FACS, elisa assays, apoptosis assays, confocal microscopy imaging and immunohistochemistry including cell survival assays. Isolate binding proteins and perform protein biochemistry experiments including immunoprecipitation and protein purification, labeling and gel analysis. May write scientific communications and prepare grants. Inventory, order and maintain supplies and lab equipment. Oversee duties of lab safety officer.

  • Advanced theoretical knowledge and/or Bachelor's Degree in virology, biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology. Experience with construction and characterization of various recombinant adenoviral gene vectors.

  • Theoretical knowledge of cell biology, in vivo biology, pathology and biochemistry.

  • In depth knowledge and experience with in vitro cell biological procedures including adenoviral plaque assays, TCID 50 determination, proliferation assays, apoptosis assays and others.

  • Knowledge and experience with viral gene transduction, subcloning into viral vectors, adenoviral dynamics, cellular transport, and immunology of adenovirus including E1A and E3 functions relative to TNF and CD154.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with FACS, qPCR, fluorescent and confocal microscopy including computer image analysis. Must be able to design experiments and work independently.

  • Extensive knowledge of adenoviral vector design and manipulation. Requires specific knowledge of Adenoviral types 5 and 35 genomes and experience in the manipulation of large plasmids (>40 kb) in order to construct a series of recombinant adenovirus with modified early genes and fiber expression.

  • In-depth knowledge and experience in molecular biology, including DNA and RNA purification, analysis by restriction digestion, Western analysis, cloning, polymerase chain reaction, fusion protein production and purification.

  • Knowledge and experience in protein biochemistry such as purification, labeling, quantification, Westerns, gel electrophoresis, kinase assays, and ELISA assays. In depth knowledge and experience with eukaryotic gene transfection.

  • Proven experience in organizing and writing scientific publications. Must have knowledge and experience in writing grant proposals in collaboration with PI.

  • Proven experience with use and maintenance of basic lab equipment: incubators, centrifuges, pipetters, balance pH meters, fluorescence microscopes, and water baths.

  • Demonstrated experience with laboratory management duties and training research staff in a variety of research procedures.

  • Proven experience with the production of adenoviral vector including scaleup and purification for preclinical studies. Must have knowledge of adenoviral purification techniques.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.
  • Must work occasional evenings or weekends as required.
  • Must be willing to work with small animals and biohazardous materials.
