Under the direction of the Center for Occupational Health and Environmental Medicine (COEM) Director and collaboration with COEM Medical Director, the Clinical Nurse Supervisor is a front-line management position responsible for the immediate functioning of the Occupational Medicine clinical areas. In addition to performing normal clinical duties, the Clinical Nurse Supervisor directs and supervises overall operation of the nursing unit and is responsible for supervising and delivering quality patient care on designated shift. Responsible for promoting high quality, cost effective delivery of care by assessing, monitoring, and educating the nursing staff.
In addition, the Clinical Nurse Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the unit effectively utilizes resources, provides excellent customer service, and complies with regulatory and internal UCSD requirements. The Clinical Nurse Supervisor plans, schedules and organizes work for the unit, ensuring proper distribution of assignments and efficient utilization of personnel, space and facilities. Position supervises staff, screens candidates, and assists with the interviewing and hiring of new employees.
The Clinical Nurse Supervisor ensures staff competence by conducting performance appraisals, counseling staff and taking disciplinary action as required in consultation with nursing management and Human Resources/Labor Relations. Position works in collaboration with House Supervisors and Nurse Managers to ensure safe and effective patient flow.

BSN required; will consider candidates who are currently enrolled in BSN or higher nursing degree program.
Registered Nurse (RN) issued by the state of California.
BART or BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
A minimum of Two (2) years of recent RN experience.
A minimum of one (1) year of charge nurse experience. Two (2) years of experience in a supervisory role.
Strong computer skills across various software platforms. Demonstrated experience with electronic medical records.
Excellent interpersonal and planning skills to interact with physicians and staff at various skill and licensure level.
Excellent ability to communicate proficiently orally and in writing.
Leadership ability that includes facility with peer coaching. Able to work effectively in a team environment and with patients and their families.
Possess and maintain expert knowledge of disease processes, the continuum of care, and services/resources available to the patient.
Compassionate caregiver with a holistic perspective of patient and family-centered care.
Ability to access best practice evidence through formal literature search.
- Outpatient clinical experience in Occupational/Employee Health.
- Knowledge of, and working experience with, TJC and CMS regulatory standards.
- Knowledge of, and working with worker' compensation injuries.
- Phlebotomy experience.
- NIOSH Spirometry Training.
- Certified drug and alcohol test collector.
- Knowledge of evaluation of workplace exposures.
- Triage and provide nursing services or arrange for higher level of care to employees who become ill or suffer a workplace injury.
- CAOHC Audiometry Certification.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety concepts and California Workers Comp and OSHA regulations
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
