Under direct supervision of Service Center Management, the incumbent is responsible for providing coverage for the front desk and supporting the authorization staff. Additionally provides support and communication for patients, monitoring timeliness of providers. Participates in numerous open forums (Key User Meetings, Service Center Team Meetings) and other meetings as designated. Provides support to appointment scheduling and insurance verification as needed. Incumbent is responsible for answering multi-line incoming customer calls, assisting with online registrations, scheduling appointments, and securing authorization for scheduled services.


  • Two (2) years of related experience in a healthcare environment, with prior administrative support experience in a hospital setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Basic knowledge of Insurance payors, including federal, state, and private health plans.

  • Prior experience with related systems: EPIC or comparable EMR system.

  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple lines and issues at once, while maintaining a positive attitude and excellent customer service.

  • Proficient with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).

  • Experience with high volume, multi-line telephone calls.

  • Superb customer service presence.


  • Experience in hospital based or medical setting.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Ability to prioritize and process therapy referrals based on diagnosis.
  • Familiar with UCSD policies and procedures.


  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
  • Candidate must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Must provide coverage for planned vacations, sick leave and will need to work occasionally on Saturdays.
