The mission of the newly founded Data Science Institute is to advance the scientific foundations for this exciting new field, and to support education and training of students who will be the new leaders in this area. Digital data have emerged as central to addressing critical societal needs and enhancing the quality of life in the coming decades. Data science touches virtually all aspects of life on our planet. At the campus level, UC San Diego already has tremendous strength in this area, ranging across all segments of the university. For this reason, the Institute has been established as an independent unit that works collaboratively with schools, divisions, departments, centers, and faculty and students across the entire campus. The Institute is overseen by a faculty director, who report to an Oversight Committee chaired by the Chancellor. The Institute will be the administrative home for the newly established undergraduate B.S. major and minor in Data Science, and will work with departments and the Academic Senate to create additional graduate programs in data science. The institute will support collaborations between researchers across campus and will also provide critical resources to support innovation in data science.
The incumbent will apply professional UC Academic HR concepts, organization and / or system wide policies, and procedures to provide guidance to supervisors and managers to resolve a variety of academic human resources issues of moderate scope and complexity.
The Academic HR Analyst will provide AP/HR to support HDSI to include
- HDSI undergraduate program (lecturers, faculty, TAs/Readers/Tutors, staff)
- HDSI business office (communications, industry relations specialist, administrative support, student workers)
- HDSI research opportunities (GSRs, faculty, post docs, visiting scholars, visiting industry fellow)
- HDSI faculty (faculty with 0 - 100% appointments at HDSI)
The incumbent will interact with AP/HR personnel throughout general campus, SIO, UC Health for joint appointments.
Knowledge of human resources management systems and other related business software programs and systems.
Knowledge of human resources management systems and other related business software programs and systems. Demonstrated ability and knowledge of personal computer platforms and software tools including spreadsheets or databases, word-processing and internet to streamline and automate work for effectiveness and efficiency.
Knowledge of the academic process and experience managing a broad scope of complex personnel and related functions including academic personnel, payroll, academic recruitments.
Experience in payroll/timekeeping administration and proven ability to process payroll in a timely and accurate manner. Demonstrated math skills to perform calculations.
Demonstrated experience working across organizations, departments, and functional areas to each consensus.
