Perform administrative analysis support to the Clinical Research Billing Director. The incumbent will undergo training in EPIC, Clinical Trial Research Institute (CTRI) and Office of Coverage Analysis Administration (OCAA) systems and process related to clinical research billing. Perform qualitative and analytical investigation of clinical research bills in Do Not Bill (DNB) and Claim Edit Work Queues (WQ), along with any related corrections to send out a compliant and accurate bill to relevant payors.
Independently conducts reviews of complex, high risk issues or best practice areas that requires detailed analyses, gathering data, evaluation of potential solutions, identification and assessment of clinical research billing risk for UCSD, as well as recommending and ensuring appropriate long term sustainable corrective solutions. Serves as a key resource within the CRB department to ensure compliant and accurate bills are sent to insurers, research studies, and patients.
To support compliant and accurate billing, the incumbent is responsible for charge review, charge corrections, payment postings, and payment reversals (refunds) for research studies and sponsored programs. Close coordination with Patient Financial Services, other teams and stakeholders is necessary to ensure non-research charges affiliated with a research patient are billed correctly to third party payers. Performs other administrative analysis functions as required.
Bachelor's Degree in business, healthcare administration or related area; and/or equivalent experience/training.
A minimum three (3) or more years of relevant experience - clinical research, billing, coding and Epic experience.
Experience and proven success in practices, procedures, and concepts of the healthcare revenue cycle and its component operations, including billing, collections, charge capture, contractual adjustments, third-party reimbursements, and cash management.
