The Health Sciences Planning division of UC San Diego Health is seeking a high-performing, flexible self-starter to play a vital role in its Strategic and Business Planning function. The Senior Strategic Planning Analyst will lead the data analytic function of the division, including developing and executing robust synthesis and assessments that inform strategies to meet the enterprise’s strategic objectives. The ideal candidate will approach projects with an organized and analytic focus, developing insights and actionable recommendations using primary and secondary data sources.
Analyze strategic and operational opportunities through advanced quantitative and qualitative analysis. Act as a thought-partner within strategy, helping to identify key strategic issues, creating a framework for analysis, and developing data-based insights that offer a set of strategic choices. Lead development of environmental assessments and other strategic analyses to support enterprise and service line/business strategic planning; such assessments include, but are not limited to, market share analyses, competitor assessments, and volume trend analyses.
Complete ad hoc data analyses using databases such as OSHPD or internal systems.
Develop market and population-based utilization or demand projections (e.g., by geography, service line). Create maps to visually display data points and key information including dot density maps, heat maps, and other types of maps. Lead data visualization capabilities for the division, including dashboards, using Tableau or similar software. Research and learn about data tools available and used throughout the enterprise; collaborate with organizational partners to identify data/information with strategic importance for the division.
Collaborate with organizational leaders and physicians to identify data/information reporting needs and optimization opportunities. Assist in the maintenance of accurate inventories (e.g., locations, physician practices). Continually assess usefulness and utility of data analysis and reporting, and modify to meet changing needs. Develop executive-level summaries and presentations. Research and provide recommendations for future analytic tools. Assist in the maintenance of data integrity for the division. Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's Degree in business administration or related area; and/or equivalent experience/ training.
A minimum of three (3+) or more years of relevant experience in strategic analysis or business intelligence.
Thorough knowledge of business intelligence functions, analytics, industry standards and best practices.
Proficiency in the use of computerized software including Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with a proven executive presence.
Ability to operate independently, with minimal direction. Strong critical reasoning/thinking skills. Solid teamwork skills.
- Health care system experience.
- Experience with mapping software.
- Experience with complex data structures including independent mining and data exploration, including use of business intelligence and data visualize software (e.g., Tableau, EPIC Clarity, ArcGIS, SQL).
- Capable of performing detailed business analyses while maintaining a strategic perspective.
- Demonstrated ability to learn key software programs and databases.
- Comfort working in a dynamic environment and managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
