The Preuss School is a charter middle and high school dedicated to providing a rigorous college prep education for motivated low-income students who will become the first in their families to graduate from college. As a department within Academic Affairs, The Preuss School also serves as a model school to study and develop best practices in the preparation of low-income, urban students for college admission.

The Preuss school nurse provides a health service program for students for the evaluation, improvement, and protection of the students and school personnel in accordance with State Law and school policy and procedures. The Preuss School Nurse will interact regularly with students, staff, faculty and parents. The Nurse must be able to counsel students on various health matters at a level that is appropriate and clear for the student.


  • Must possess CA Registered Nurse license and School Nurse Services Credential.

  • Current Medication Furnishing Number.

  • Current CPR certification.

  • Demonstrated nursing experience with adolescents.

  • Demonstrated experience in educating student and staff in health care issues.

  • Experience in providing health assessment and addressing mental and physical health maintenance and medication management.

  • Experience in organizing and delivering care during urgent, emergent, and unexpected events or changes in student health status.

  • Proven clinical experience with adolescents. Experience in monitoring and maintaining accurate student health data.

  • Proven knowledge and experience in medical and physical assessments of adult, adolescent and child population.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of normal developmental milestones for each age group.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Flexibility and positive attitude necessary to work successfully in a dynamic school environment; ability to work independently; strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate with colleagues.

  • Sensitivity in interacting with youth populations and within bounds of student and family confidentiality.

  • Bilingual - Spanish preferred.


  • FBI/DOJ Live Scan background check is required.

  • Must pass negative TB testing.
