Under supervision, the incumbent will assist with performing routine biochemical and cell biology techniques, such as cell culture and generation of lenti and retro viral stocks. Incumbent should possess a basic understanding of the use of genetic tools, as well as familiarity with automated liquid handling systems. The incumbent will aid in preparing data reports and communication of results to supervisor and laboratory members. Incumbent must be willing to work within a team environment and have exceptional communication skills.
High school diploma and greater than one (1) year of laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
The knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
Demonstrated familiarity with basic and general techniques in functional genomics.
Demonstrated experience with general laboratory techniques.
Demonstrated ability to measure, weigh, and mix chemicals.
Proven experience and ability to use various lab instruments including balance, autoclave, and liquid handling systems.
Ability to prepare solutions at proper concentrations, operate analytical balances and perform accurate calculations.
Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to order and maintain lab equipment and supplies.
Ability to work with minimum supervision and to work closely and collaboratively with others including the ability to follow written and oral instructions.
Knowledge of laboratory safety precautions including appropriate clothing and shoes, safe handling of chemicals, use of protective items such as gloves and goggles.
Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs).
