The Department of Family Medicine and Public Health has approximately 100 salaried faculty and is comprised of seven divisions: Behavioral Medicine, Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, Family Medicine, Global Health, Health Policy, and Preventive Medicine. Our mission is to improve Public Health through preventive, behavioral, epidemiologic and clinical research, education and clinical care. Our patient care is provided at several locations across the county as well as through multiple initiatives with the medically under-served in our community and includes training of over 60 residents and fellows. With over $125 million in research grants and contracts, our award-winning faculty conduct innovative Public Health research at the intersection of behavioral and medical sciences to assess and understand chronic disease etiology, improve human health, and prevent disease at the individual and population level.

Under the general supervision of the study coordinator, the candidate will assist with the delivery of a health intervention related to health aging. Duties will include: completing scheduled in-person and telephone health counseling calls to control and intervention participants, preparing for and participating in weekly case management meetings with study Investigators and staff, attending intervention education sessions, assisting with participant recruitment, conducting in-person eligibility screening and obtaining informed consent, entering participant data into study database and other tasks to support the delivery of the intervention.


  • Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and demonstrated interest in the delivery or health or social services; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

  • Demonstrated educational and/or professional work experience in Public Health, Sedentary Behavior, Healthy Aging, Exercise Science or related fields.

  • Demonstrated experience conducting phone and in-person interviews with specific attention to confidentiality issues; using excellent communication skills and providing a comfortable atmosphere for participant.

  • Demonstrated experience to independently review data for completeness, adhere to protocols, and report for quality control.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in using various databases, word processing software and spreadsheet applications. Familiarity with Windows, all MS Office programs, and computer applications including research oriented database software.

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in adhering to HIPAA and Human Research Protection Program regulations including medical record and regulatory document management.

  • Experience in performing data checks for accuracy and completeness.

  • Some background in counseling or clinical research. Some knowledge of behavior change theory and research, related to promoting healthy aging or sedentary behavior.


  • Bilingual: English and Spanish.

  • Experience with the objective measurement of physical activity & sedentary behavior; including ActivPALS, pedometers, accelerometers, Sensecam and GPS devices.

  • Experience working with REDCap databases.


  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • Must have valid California Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs, this includes occasional evenings and weekends.
