Under supervision of the Principal Investigator, the incumbent will serve as research project coordinator for ongoing research studies including both domestic and international populations. Responsibilities include creating progress reports for international research studies; apportioning resources to achieve study goals; preparing progress reports for the Principal Investigator, including strategies for meeting study objectives; identifying and reviewing relevant scientific literature; and preparing scientific manuscripts and presentations for scientific meetings. The incumbent will coordinate human subjects’ submissions by preparing applications, informed consents and protocol documents for submission to the Human Subjects Institutional Review Board (IRB). Prepare protocols, training manuals, grants, manuscripts, presentations, and reports. Assist Principal Investigators with tracking grant proposals to ensure compliance with UCSD, State, and Federal agency requirements, IRB regulations and human subjects’ requirements. Act as the study liaison to effect study goals.


  • Theoretical knowledge in public health, international health or in a related field generally acquired through a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in research protocol procedures, design, monitoring, Human Subject Rights, and informed consent procedures.

  • Demonstrated experience reading, comprehending and discussing research materials. Demonstrated ability to assist in the writing of papers for publication and research proposals.

  • Demonstrated experience working in a research setting with undeserved and/or minority populations.

  • Demonstrated experience in preparing grant proposals for domestic and international research.

  • Experience in coordination and allocation of resources and day-to-day planning for efficient operation of an enterprise devoted to high-risk populations and interacting with a research environment.

  • Proficiency with the operation of a personal computer and software applications, such as MS Word, Endnote, PowerPoint and Excel. Demonstrated ability to work with and learn new software for data analysis.

  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) needed to interact professionally and effectively in the work environment, as well as effectively and accurately document research procedures. Excellent verbal, written, and clinical skills to prepare and present information.


  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • Must be willing to work occasional overtime and/or flexible schedule as necessary to meet deadlines.
