The UCSD Mother Child & Adolescent HIV Program provides comprehensive and integrated HIV care, social services and clinical research to women, infants, children and youth ages 13-24. A multidisciplinary team of HIV specialists provides medical care, treatment, health education, nutrition education, mental health counseling, case management and peer support. As a clinical research site for NIH funded clinical studies, the program offers innovative, state of the science clinical interventions and observational studies for women, pregnant women, children and youth.

Under supervision, responsible for coordinating, organizing and supporting HIV-related clinical research data activities at the UCSD Mother Child Adolescent HIV Program. Assists with data collection, entry and management activities within multiple databases. Responsibilities include data extraction and entry into multiple web-based and computer-based data collection systems. Provides quality assurance, assists in running reports and queries, researches and troubleshoots data problems. Tracks, corrects, modifies, verifies, and performs quality checks on data in central database. Works with research staff to update and improve data entry timeliness and accuracy. Performs quality control and quality assurance on data keyed into study specific databases. Responsible for coordinating the accuracy, timeliness, error correction, queries, delinquencies, site discrepancies and efficient flow of data from collection to electronic transmission. Assists in taking corrective action on monthly data management reports. Works with research team to develop forms that meet the needs of the research agenda and simplifies data collection.


  • Theoretical knowledge of a biological science, clinical research or related field.

  • Demonstrated experience in data collection and data entry methods.

  • Demonstrated experience working with data quality control/assurance procedures.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills including using tact, diplomacy, and flexibility in dealing with internationally and culturally diverse populations.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with PC computers to include Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint software.

  • Knowledge of the principles of quality data management and form development in relation to data collection for a research protocol.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills for effectively interacting with faculty and staff, extramural collaborators, and foreign visitors in person, in writing and on the phone

  • Experience in organizing and maintaining electronic filing systems for rapid, easy retrieval by self and others.


  • Bilingual English/Spanish.

  • Knowledge of basic programming techniques and/or the ability to learn them and apply them towards the design of data collection procedures and surveys.


  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.

  • Maintain confidentiality of research subjects in HIV treatment studies.

  • Occasional weekends and evening work.
