The UCSD Moores Cancer Center (MCC) is one of only 40 National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States. This designation is reserved for cancer centers with the highest achievements in cancer research, clinical care, education, and community contributions. Moores Cancer Center strives to stay at the forefront of emerging cancer research in a patient centric environment. Principal Investigators (PIs) in the MCC conduct clinical trials to test new treatments for people affected by cancer. The goal is to find better ways to prevent cancer, treat cancer, and care for cancer patients. The disease teams at the MCC aim to expand the opportunities for advanced therapeutic studies to be written, opened, and maintained, and to increase the number of cancer patients enrolled clinical trials. The focus of the research is cancer symptom intervention studies with an emphasis on novel drug development.

The Clinical Trials Office (CTO) at the Moores UCSD Cancer Center manages over 300 oncology clinical trials on behalf of its member investigators, including trials sponsored by National Cancer Institute cooperative groups, pharmaceutical companies, and physician investigators.

Reporting directly to the Billing Compliance Specialist Supervisor the Moores Cancer Center (MCC) Clinical Trials Office (CTO) and Center for Personalized Cancer Therapy (CPCT) Patient Experience Concierge (hereafter “Concierge”) serves as a non-clinical resource and liaison for patients and their families seeking treatment within the Center for Personalized Cancer Therapy, particularly those who travel to UC San Diego from out-of-town. The Concierge provides support, guidance and assistance for patients and families as they navigate through complex healthcare environments. The Concierge works closely with clinical and administrative staff from the MCC Multi-specialty Clinical, Rare Tumors Clinic, and Clinical Trials Office (CTO) to ensure a smooth, organized experience for patients. The Concierge assists with travel and lodging arrangements, coordinates clinical appointments, and ensures that all pre-appointment requirements are resolved (insurance clearance, pathology, scans, etc.). The Concierge works to break down patient access barriers by building close relationships with physicians and clinical staff, thoroughly learning UC San Diego Health processes and policies, and working closely with MCC patient experience representatives on improvement opportunities.
