The telephone triage nurses educate patients, allay their anxiety and/or direct them to the appropriate level of care facility. Triage nurses rely on their assessment skills, clinical nursing knowledge, and understanding of growth and development across the age continuum. Telephone triage nurses must have exceptional listening and communication skills to assess the urgency/acuity of the patient's symptoms and to advise patients appropriately. The documentation from these calls is sent to the patient's primary care physician for admission to their electronic health record. Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge.
The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care. All performance expectations associated with this position are performed at the PRACTITIONER Level.
This position will require someone versed in triaging, as well as leadership experience. Some care management work will be expected for this position.

- RN License issued by the State of California.
- BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART w/in 6 months of hire date.
- Must have a minimum of one (1) year of active nursing experience.
- Triage experience with all ages (Peds/Children to adults/elder).
- Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
- One (1) year of ambulatory care/outpatient experience.
- Leadership experience
- Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and various locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.
- Selected candidate may be hired at the CNIII level pending review and approval by the Nurse Executive Council.
