DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the VC-CFO, Information Technology Services (ITS) delivers Enterprise information technology services to the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) under the leadership of the campus Chief Information Officer (CIO).

Educational Technology Services (ETS) is a part of the Academic Technology Services group that provides technology services, support, and resources to the UC San Diego academic community, facilitating teaching and learning in service of the University's educational mission.

Responsibilities:

•Works in the Instructional User Services unit providing a variety of technical instructional computing services to faculty and students with an emphasis on user support, database management, and programming.

•Designs, develops, ports, tests, and supports procedural and software solutions.

•Assists in the development and maintenance of instructional user accounts and related documentation and educational material.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

  • Requires interpersonal skills in order to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.

  • Experience conducting escalated, broad technical support including hardware and software tests, analyzing test results and producing reports of conclusions and recommendations. Familiarity with open source software for a wide range of disciplines, along with the ability to analyze problems, select components, and integrate, implement, and maintain software tools which provide solutions to ITS instructional systems' and users' needs across multiple operating system environments.

  • Broad knowledge of enterprise system functions, dependencies and interactions and ability to use this information to troubleshoot. Demonstrated working knowledge of Unix (Redhat Linux, CentOS, Solaris), Windows 7 & 8, and OS X user interfaces, utilities, and operating techniques, and demonstrated experience using functions such as authentication, file and directory management, data management, file transfers, email, editing, and printing in one or more of them.

  • Advanced skill at creating technical documentation for complex processes and applications.

  • Demonstrates problem-solving skills.
