Incumbent serves as Divisional Senior Award Accountant in the Office of Post Award Financial Services (OPAFS) ---a division of Business and Financial Services (BFS). This position oversees the financial management and compliance oversight of UCSD’s contract, & grant funds, which represent approximately 60% of UCSD's $2.4 billion dollars in funding (excluding the Medical Center). This position serves as subject matter expert and provides vital back-up coverage to divisional Award Accountants for complex awards to include cash and financial management accounting, financial reporting and post-award administration.
Incumbent provides full support to campus research departments and Principal Investigators with responsibilities that include regulatory compliance ensuring all applicable government and private regulations are met during the executed award period. In addition, this position will provide lead and backup coverage to the Control and Accountability Support Team.
This position will also assume central accounting responsibilities and coordination of the Balance Sheet Reconciliation process, month and year end closing processes and other central accounting reporting as required. This position represents the Assistant Director of Control and Accountability in their absence and will also provide support as needed for campus wide and organizational initiatives.
Working under the direction of the Assistant Director, the incumbent will assist in the oversight of the Control and Accountability Team, and will promote employee development directly through training and review of work performed, and ensuring standardization and compliance with funding entity regulations.

Graduation from college with a major in accounting and four years of experience in accounting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of two (2) years of direct post award administration of sponsored research.
Demonstrated experience managing variety of research awards including but not limited to: DHHS (NIH, PHS, CDC), NSF, DOD (including ONR), DOE, ED, USGS, USDA, DOT, USDI, Private foundations, private companies.
Demonstrated analytical skills, ability to comprehend and reconcile financial data, and perform mathematical computations with accuracy
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Ability to apply knowledge of automated accounting systems to resolve problems, recommend improvements, and develop new systems and processes.
Proven comprehensive knowledge of contracts and grants post award administration.
Intermediate proficiency in MS Office software applications (Word, Access, Excel) or similar software - to problem solving and systems development.
Proven comprehensive knowledge of UCSD accounting system, and policy and procedures.
Proven comprehensive knowledge of audit and internal control standards; demonstrated experience in applying standards to cash management practice
