#88002 Shuttle Operations Supervisor

DESCRIPTION

Under direction of Shuttle Operations Manager, provide first-line direction and supervision to large team of Shuttle Operators (85 - 170 drivers per shift) involved in the transportation of 22,000 passengers daily.

Prepare and coordinate schedule adjustments, route and/or Operator changes and shift assignments; monitor attendance and provide backup Operators for absences; monitor field operations to ensure routes and schedules are followed and that Operators adhere to DMV rules, operational policies and procedures.

Analyze traffic and passenger data to identify schedule problems and report information to Manager. Maintain communication with Operators during shift to ensure timely shift and route changes and quick response to vehicle break-downs or other hazardous situations. Develop curriculum for driver instruction; coordinate and deliver Annual Driver Training Program.

Perform on-site driver performance tests and issue Commerical and Non-Commercial Licenses for Transporation & Parking Services. Instruct, advise and evaluate Shuttle Operators in the field or classroom on the safe, efficient operation of equipment; identify and recommend retraining needs and conduct retraining. Monitor daily route services, signage, lighting and refer concerns to Manager for changes and/or adjustments necessary for operational improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Substantial experience supervising, scheduling, coordinating, monitoring and evaluating the work of others. Ability to schedule, assign and coordinate multiple drivers, shifts and shuttle routes.

  • Vehicle Instructor status with California DMV preferred. Must possess and maintain Class B (or higher) Commercial Drivers License with Air Brake and Passenger Endorsements. Must possess Valid Medical Examiners Certificate.

  • Knowledge and understanding of transportation/transit operations and required equipment. Ability to operate commercial vehicles and equipment safely and effciently.

  • Experience providing effective instruction, information and direction; knowledge of proper radio communication terminology necessary to expendiently and effectively handle hazardous or emergency situations.

  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise and effective manner with staff, peers, management, and members of the public. Strong public speaking and instruction skills.

  • Knowledge of vehicle accident response and reporting procedures. Ability to assess potential mechanical problems.

  • Ability to listen and analyze problems related to driver behavior and ability to identify, address and correct safety infractions and training needs. Experience performing and documenting field evaluations.

  • Knowledge of shuttle statistical procedures such as passenger, maintenance and mileage logs.

  • Skill at communicating changes in policy, behavioral issues and maintaining internal standards.

  • Ability to operate personal computer, using various software applications in a Windows environment such as: E-mail, Wordprocessing and databse programs.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

~Vehicle Instructor status with California DMV preferred.

~Must possess and maintain Class B (or higher) Commercial Driver License with Air Brake and Passenger Endorsements with a valid Medical Examiners Certificate.

~Incumbents must participate in UCSD’s random drug testing program to comply with California Dept. of Transporation laws.

~Must be able to work occasional overtime and weekends.
