Filing Deadline: Fri 3/24/2017

This is a part time 60% Contract Project Position funded for two years, with the possibility of extension/career conversion.

Using advanced engineering concepts and campus objectives to lead and perform the work of an engineering team engaged in a specialized engineering field on a training and / or research program, the incumbent serves as specialist and advisor to the Principal Investigator (PI) in planning, organizing, and performing mechanical, electrical, and software development to create a novel, functioning biometric prototype, designed to identify newborns in order to track history of vaccinations for the Kidprint research project. Regularly works on highly complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises independent judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

Advise the PI regarding different design approaches, including implications to the science, engineering, cost, and project timeline. Assists in proposal preparation as needed and scientific publications.
Responsible for creating test procedures, overseeing/participating in engineering and field testing, and analyzing the results. The incumbent will act as the engineering liaison to both UC and outside personnel, and will direct and mentor research students and other engineering staff.

The position involves independently and proactively solving complex and novel engineering issues requiring analysis of design requirements and variables to develop imaginative and novel technical solutions. Lack of performance results in critical delays in meeting deliverables and adversely impact overall project.
