The Director of the Master of Advanced Study (MAS) programs independently directs and leads all aspects of MAS program, including programmatic administration, strategic planning, development of objectives, organization, allocation of resources for three advanced studies degree programs with 5 cohorts that include 140 students pursuing self-funded masters degree programs accounting for more than $3M in revenues to the university each year. The Director is responsible for conceptualizing, strategic planning, implementation, growth, and revenue support of the MAS programs and ensures effective use of program resources and expenditures.

The Director is charged with identifying, analyzing, cultivating, and stewarding corporate interests in the program to promote and grow programs; act as the interface between the Jacobs School and the business community, including senior corporate executives and directors of industry associations, and between the departments and the MAS program, to develop and expand long-term relationships in support of the program; develop and implement strategic plans to engage engineering professionals, their managers, and corporate leaders.

Under general direction of the Senior Assistant Dean and Chief of Staff, provide strategic guidance and support to Jacobs School of Engineering faculty in the preparation of comprehensive masters degree program proposals including the development of multi-year budgets to include revenue-generating and self-supporting Master's, executive, and certificate programs. Oversee the Jacobs School’s administration of the Joint Doctoral Program (JDP) with San Diego State University. Working with faculty from both campuses, serve as the main administrative coordinating point for the Jacobs School.


  • Advanced degree in related area; and/or equivalent experience/training.

  • Thorough knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results. Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers.

  • Solid fundraising experience.

  • Experience to analyze, track and evaluate marketing programs. Experience analyzing the operational and budget effectiveness of various marketing strategies, mechanisms, alternatives, including self-supporting educational programs.

  • Experience developing a brand identity, preferably in a start-up organization or for a new product/service/program in an existing, larger organization.

  • Experience creatively developing a brand to match an organization's vision/mission/strengths with market opportunities. Experience developing branding policies and communicating those concepts to staff.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of leadership and management principles, theory, concepts and practices, and the ability to apply to curriculum, program, project and organizational development.

  • Proven experience in the development of establishing and building long-term strategic partnerships within high-tech organizations and educational partners. Proven success at converting leads and implementing strategic solicitation for program participation.

  • Skills in project management, social perceptiveness to be aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do. Strong knowledge of leadership and management principles, theory, concepts and practices, and the ability to apply to curriculum, program, project and organizational development.

  • Knowledge of University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences, preferred.

  • Ability in problem identification and reasoning; ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, persuasion, leadership.

  • Proven ability to lead and manage staff. Skills in monitoring/assessing people, processes or services in order to make improvements.

  • Experience marketing an educational program and developing and implementing an outreach program in person, print and digitally.


  1. Must be available every other Saturday and occasional evenings.

  2. May be required to attend conferences/programs both locally and out-of-town as requested.

  3. Must have access to reliable transportation.

  4. Must have a valid driver's license
