The Organ Allocation & Transplant Recovery Manager provides leadership to the On-Call Transplant Coordinators, Organ Allocation Specialists and Transplant Recovery Specialists for the Center of Transplantation. Responsibilities will include optimization of organ allocation process, afterhours transplant patient triage, UNOS responsibilities (listing, delisting, disease transmission reporting, donor culture reports management, status updates for all solid organs, etc), and waiting list management, standardization of training and procedures, and maintaining adequate staffing to support the afore mentioned responsibilities for all solid organ programs. The Manager is responsible for ensuring the effective operation of the day to day activities of this group of specialists including: planning, organizing, scheduling, and controlling the workload. Duties also include continual optimization and process improvement. The incumbent will also act as the liaison between OPO’s (organ procurement organizations), HLA Lab and Abdominal and Thoracic Transplant programs and staff.

This position will approve and implement changes in workflow as well as train staff on Epic and Phoenix workflow across the department to standardize processes and maintain regulatory compliance. The Manager identifies areas for improvement with regard to departmental policies and procedures and develops plans for improving the quality of these processes. The incumbent provides direct customer service to patients and staff as needed. The incumbent is responsible for orientation and training needs of staff as well as other key stakeholders in the transplant service line. The Manager ensures adequate staffing and schedules to cover all on-call, UNOS, and organ allocation activity. Incumbent must have a sound knowledge base of UNOS policy and CMS regulatory requirements in relation to organ allocation, waitlist management as well as ongoing patient status updating. The incumbent must partner with the Transplant Clinical Managers and Quality Team to ensure knowledge and compliance of policy changes and updates. Participates in Transplant Administration 24/7 on call coverage on a rotating schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Key Responsibilities:
• Implements new strategic clinical and operational programs to improve practice performance, quality and revenue capture. Develops program benchmarks.
• Recommends innovative programs to achieve strategic goals. Leads analysis and concept review. Presents proposals to physician leaders and transplant administrative and clinical leadershipmanagers.
• Leads program research, analysis and implementation. Measures practice performance/ productivity. Provides detailed comprehensive analytical reports identifying practice trends to justify programs.
• Develops and implements program resource allocation. Evaluates new technologies and/or vendors to achieve program objectives.
• Develops and manages program budget. Develops projections based on program resources and demand for services.
• Establishes quality assurance standards for program.
• Works closely with clinical managers and physician leaders to insure program activities integrate with practice operations and physician workflows.
• Develops and manages program training for staff.
• Manages vendor relationships ensuring adherence to contract terms. Reviews contracts, renewals and negotiates agreements.
• Advises leadership on program/ project development and implementation. Leads consensus decision making.
• Organizes interdepartmental activities. Participates in strategic planning, attends meetings and serves on committees.
• Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution.

  • Active California RN license.

  • Seven (7+) or more years of related experience, including experience as a transplant coordinator with organ allocation and patient call experience in organ transplant patient populations.

  • Thorough understanding of medical terminology and specialized clinical knowledge of organ transplant.

  • Experience with and knowledge of the clinical and operational implications of medical billing practices and documentation requirements.

  • Strong knowledge of ambulatory care clinic practice management including patient care workflows and processes.


  • Five (5+) or more years of transplant coordinator experience with organ allocation and patient call experience in organ transplant patient populations.
  • One (1+) or more year(s) of program development in transplant or related field.
  • One (1+) or more year(s) of leadership experience in transplant or a relevant healthcare setting.


  • Must pass a background check.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen and TB test.
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
