#104874 Lab Assistant - Limited Appointment

Under supervision, the Lab Assistant will be responsible for performing routine analytical chemistry techniques, including preparation of bioasamples for metabolite extraction, as well as basic liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry based analysis of prepared samples. Will be responsible for preparation of data reports and communication of results to supervisor and laboratory members. Must be willing to work under a team environment. Exceptional communication skills a must. Prior experience with mass spectrometry is considered a requirement.


  • Bachelor's degree or high school diploma plus some laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

  • Familiarity with basic and general techniques in analytical chemistry and mass spectrometry.

  • Experience with general laboratory techniques.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision and to work closely and collaboratively with others including the ability to follow written and oral instructions.

  • Ability to measure, weigh, and mix chemicals.

  • Demonstrated experience and ability to use various lab instruments including balance and autoclave.

  • Ability to prepare solutions at proper concentrations, operate analytical balances and perform accurate calculations.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to order and maintain lab equipment and supplies.

  • Knowledge of laboratory safety precautions including appropriate clothing and shoes, safe handling of chemicals, use of protective items such as gloves and goggles. Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs).


  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.

  • Must be willing to work with human biosamples.
