Under supervision, the Lab Assistant will be responsible for performing routine analytical chemistry techniques, including preparation of bioasamples for metabolite extraction, as well as basic liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry based analysis of prepared samples. Will be responsible for preparation of data reports and communication of results to supervisor and laboratory members. Must be willing to work under a team environment. Exceptional communication skills a must. Prior experience with mass spectrometry is considered a requirement.
Bachelor's degree or high school diploma plus some laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
Familiarity with basic and general techniques in analytical chemistry and mass spectrometry.
Experience with general laboratory techniques.
Demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision and to work closely and collaboratively with others including the ability to follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to measure, weigh, and mix chemicals.
Demonstrated experience and ability to use various lab instruments including balance and autoclave.
Ability to prepare solutions at proper concentrations, operate analytical balances and perform accurate calculations.
Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to order and maintain lab equipment and supplies.
Knowledge of laboratory safety precautions including appropriate clothing and shoes, safe handling of chemicals, use of protective items such as gloves and goggles. Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs).
