DESCRIPTION

The Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible and accountable for providing administrative and clinical leadership. Develops standards of care coordination that demonstrates the success in: promoting high quality, cost effective delivery of care, ensuring effective utilization of resources across the continuum; excellent customer service; and compliance with regulatory and internal UCSD requirements. Spearheads innovative projects and approaches involving multidisciplinary factions for systems improvement that affects patient outcomes across the organization. Plans schedules and organizes work for departments and ensuring proper distribution of assignments and efficient utilization of personnel, space and facilities.

Supervises staff, screens candidates, interviews and hires new employees. Ensures staff competence, compliance with staff licensure/certification requirements and maintenance of related documentation. Conducts performance appraisals, counsels staff, and takes disciplinary action as required in consultation with Human Relations/Labor Relations. Ensures compliance with discipline related action plans. Develops/integrates annual operational, capital and personnel budget for each cost center with the Department of Finance.

This position is split between Jacobs Medical Center (Level III NICU) and Hillcrest Medical Center (Level II NICU.) Must be willing and able to work at both locations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Nursing.

  • Registered Nurse (RN) issued by the state of California.

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six months of hire date.

  • NRP certification.

  • Five or more years of relevant RN experience, including three or more years of recent experience in a level III or IV NICU.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage nursing teams.

  • Knowledge to manage emergent situations, sentinel events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • MSN.

  • Clinical area certification (i.e. RNC) or Nursing Administration Certification.

  • Two or more years of nursing leadership or Charge RN experience.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • This position has both clinical and administrative duties (generally 60% clinical and 40% administrative).

  • This position functions as Assistant Nurse Manager at both Jacobs Medical Center and Hillcrest Medical Center. Must be able to work at both locations.

  • This is a variable shift position which may require day, evening and night shift coverage, and is eligible for shift differentials.

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
