Reports to the Periop Senior Nursing Director, the Pre-Op Care Center Nurse Manager maintains accountability in planning, managing, controlling, and organizing comprehensive, safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. Assists in the administration of the budgetary functions. The UC San Diego Health Preoperative/Pre-procedure Care Clinic (PCC) Nurse Manager is responsible for coordinating daily operations and clinical practice of all PCC care areas which may include Chancellor Park, JMC, KOP, Shiley, and Hillcrest sites. Consistently demonstrates behaviors that model UCSD Health’s core values and mission statement. Adheres to the ANA Nurse Administration Scope & Standards of Practice.
This position monitors daily operations and overall function of the PCC areas/units, and establishes and maintains standards of care and unit policies and procedures. This position will work closely with leadership, anesthesia department, and surgeon’s offices to maintain efficient, effective, and seamless operations while providing safe, quality care in alignment with leading practice.
The Nurse Manager supports an environment of collaboration with all staff members, anesthesiology, and surgeons to actualize the vision, goals and objectives of the PCC, and implements corrective action to align performance to targets where applicable. The Nurse Manager is responsible for ensuring all PCC staff members follow standard operating procedures and processes to optimize patient and patient chart readiness on day of surgery, understand patient needs and the patient’s definition of an excellent experience, and aligns operational processes to actualize an improved patient experience.
Promotes an environment for a shared voice in nursing and advanced nursing practice, and exchange of ideas to continually improve nursing and advanced nursing practice, and patient care outcomes. Accountable for the quality, safety, patient experience and cost-effectiveness of patient care. Serves as a resource to staff, physicians, students and others. Maintains line management responsibility for the administration of fiscal, material and human resources. Other duties as assigned.

A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Nursing is required.
Registered Nurse (RN) issued by the state of California.
BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
Seven (7+) or more years of relevant experience, including at least three (3) years of recent pre-operative or anesthesia evaluation RN experience in an acute care hospital.
Recent leadership experience. Proven hospital management skills, with progressive expertise in patient care services.
Demonstrated hospital management skills, with progressive expertise in patient care services.
Demonstrated knowledge to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills.
Proven knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments.
Strong knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing or relevant area.
- Relevant specialty certification.
- Three (3+) or more years of recent supervisory or management experience.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
