UC San Diego Health new Outpatient Pavilion and 8-suite Operating Room is scheduled to open in early 2018. As we grow, so does our outpatient surgery needs to include orthopedics, urology, general surgery, head and neck, minimally invasive, and plastics. Under direction of surgical nurse, this position performs fairly complex surgical technician duties utilizing specialized knowledge acquired through formal training. This position is assigned surgical technician support to several specialty surgical areas within the Medical Center. Duties also assigned to this position may involve verification of specialty equipment and inventory, contacting surgeons concerning equipment, and supply companies and their vendors about malfunctioning or broken equipment as well as providing continuing education in-service to staff. This position may serve as a resource to other scrub personnel.
- BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART w/in 6 months of hire date.
- Must have two (2) years of experience in an Acute/Main OR Hospital or Outpatient setting.
- Must have one (1) year of approved Surgical Technician specialized training/certification.
- Must have demonstrated knowledge of maintaining a therapeutic environment for patients undergoing surgical procedures.
- Must have demonstrated knowledge of a wide variety of surgical instrumentation used in various surgical procedures.
- Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and various locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.
