DESCRIPTION

The mission of the UCSD Center for Epigenomics is to develop a quantitative and molecular framework to study the function and regulation of the human genome, with the ultimate goal to understand the molecular basis of cancer and other human diseases. Epigenomics is at the forefront of Precision Medicine. The epigenome plays a central role in regulating the functional output of the genome during development. Changes in the epigenome that result from exposure to stress, pathogenic conditions and during aging can determine the patterns of gene expression and predispose an individual to diseases. Epigenome research promises to significantly improve our understanding of the factors that drive human development and disease. The UCSD Center for Epigenomics works with researchers on the UCSD campus and beyond to foster the application of epigenomic concepts and technologies to clinical, translational, and basic research.

Under supervision of the Associate Director of Single Cell Genomics, the Single Cell Genomics Research Associate will perform cutting edge single cell genomic experiments like single cell RNA-seq, single cell ATAC-seq to analyze gene expression and profile the chromatin status in individual cells or nuclei from heterogeneous biological samples including human tissues. The incumbent will participate in experimental design and be responsible for careful record keeping, operating laboratory equipment, troubleshooting, quality control, and periodically summarizing results for supervisors. Additional duties include contributing to laboratory management, organization of laboratory reagents, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
