The Inpatient Nursing Shift Supervisor has responsibility for nursing activities on shift. Serves as administrative resource person for hospital administration and nursing administration throughout shift. Serves as clinical resource person and provides clinical support for all areas of inpatient nursing during shift. Collaborates with nurse managers and charge nurses in planning on-shift and incoming shift staffing. Hires new employees, screens applications, interviews candidates. Prepares and conducts annual performance appraisals. Trains and assigns work to new and existing employees within the department. Makes recommendations concerning merit increases and classification reviews.
Performs disciplinary action, up to dismissal, in consultation with HR/LR. Represents the department or organization in grievance hearing, administrative review process, or arbitration. Leads quality of care activities as appropriate to the individual's position, education and practice environment; safety programs; advocates and adheres to the ANA code of ethics for nurses; supports and promotes evidence based practice teams; identifies nursing sensitive indicators at the unit level; supports and directs data collection; demonstrates adherence and promotion of customer service improvement activities in all patient, family and staff interactions; assures currency in licensure and annual mandated regulatory competencies.

BSN required; will consider candidates who are currently enrolled in BSN or higher nursing degree program.
Active RN license issued by the State of California.
BART or BLS/CPR at time of hire with commitment to get BART w/in 6 months of hire date.
Must have demonstrated leadership experience in an acute care setting.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must have decision making, problem solving and prioritizing skills.
Must be able to prepare and maintain budgets.
Must possess demonstrated knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC) accreditation regulations.
Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.
Must be available to work overtime as needed.
