Under direction of the Anesthesia Practice/Coding Manager, the Anesthesia Coder III performs complex ASA (Anesthesia Coding), CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding of Anesthesia for inpatient and outpatient reports, including surgery cases (all specialties) and E/M visits. Accurately interprets handwritten notes when necessary. Retrieves all pertinent charging information through various IT systems including EPIC.

Batch and review all charges for data entry. Contacts providers by various means to physicians/staff regarding abstract feedback as needed. Applies and implements new abstracting applications, i.e. Encoder Pro, EPIC and Optime. Provides feedback as needed. Performs other related PRA3-level functions requiring the highest level of skill and complexity. Other related duties as assigned.


  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC).

  • Minimum three (3) years of comparable professional anesthesia surgery coding experience.

  • Strong skills in ASA, CPT, ICD-10, and HCPC coding applications.

  • Experience abstracting data from various reports.


  • Academic Medical Center experience.
  • Epic experience.


  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Ability to go up and down stairs as well as walk long distances.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
