The IT Business Office provides human resources, administration, and financial support to ITS staff and management as well as billing customer service and software distribution to the campus community. It consists of several units - Human Resources & Administration, Finance, IT Procurement and Inventory Management. The Cloud and Infrastructure Services teams provides Cloud Architecture and Operations, Platform Administration, Mainframe Operations, and Educational Infrastructure, in support of UC San Diego's administrative, educational, and operational functions. The group consists of several teams and leaders.
Focused on overall performance, design and implement cloud infrastructure financial processes for departments and various customers, and work closely with customer requirements to optimize costs of multi-cloud based systems. Use industry standard governance tools and processes to monitor cloud usage cost and makes recommendations as needed. Provide ongoing support for cloud provider relationships, PO and invoicing setup and troubleshooting for customers. This position will be supporting a multi-million and multi-campus venture. Provide high-level analytical support to ITS regarding cloud providers and costs to determine the best options in consultation with the enterprise architects along with customer requirements.
Define vendor financial performance requirements and regularly monitor that they are being met.
Ensure that all vendor finance issues are being resolved and communicated appropriately.
Resolve financial roadblocks that are limiting the delivery of cloud service.
Use advanced professional concepts and organizational objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
Work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
Contacts are both internal and external to the department at all levels.
Advanced knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.
Thorough knowledge and application of principles and practices of fund, recharge and higher education accounting.
Advanced experience with financial aspects of cloud services including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, other public cloud providers, and emerging technologies.
Strong understanding of the technical offerings of public cloud service providers.
Demonstrated ability to work in an environment that is constantly changing and to quickly assimilate new information on an ongoing basis.
Advanced ability to effectively present complex finance related information both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
- Thorough knowledge and experience with contracts and grants (NSF and other research granting organizations)
Must be available to work evenings and weekends.
Must be available to travel as required.
