ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Why can’t I access my online UCSD resume
application?
A: First time job applicants: After you
submit your resume for the first time we need to review and then process the
resume, which can take up to 3 business days. However,
you may apply for positions at anytime after you submit your online resume
application.
Returning
job applicants: Make
sure you created a password and that you have entered your name, number and
password exactly as you entered it when you created your resume application.
Q: Can I tailor my resume for a specific
job?
A:
UCSD’s online application system
utilizes one comprehensive resume/application for applicants to apply to
multiple positions.
Q: Is there a limit to how many jobs I can
apply for?
A: No, you can apply for all positions in
which you have an interest.
Q: Can I apply for a job as soon as my
on-line resume is completed and submitted?
A: Yes,
you can apply for a job as soon as your online resume is completed and
submitted. Please remember to visit
the UCSD Job Bulletin, find the specific job(s) you would like to apply for and
click the “Apply Here” link. Please note: If this the first time you submitted your resume
or you submitted after editing your resume, you will not be able to access your
online resume for up to three business days.
Q: How do I save my resume if it’s not
completed?
A: At
this time you can not save a UCSD resume application if it is not
completed. Please plan to complete
the process before you begin. You
may always edit/update your resume at a later date. Please note that you will
not be able to access your online resume to update or make additional edits for
three business days while your first submission is
processed.
Q: Does UCSD perform automatic matching of
applicants to job vacancies?
A: No,
the UCSD Online Application System does not perform automatic matching. You must apply for each specific job in
which you have an interest.
Q: If the job states “Internal
Recruitment,” is it only for UCSD Internal Applicants?
A: The
UCSD Internal Recruitment Program allows career employees to receive priority
consideration for referral by HR for job vacancies. In the event that a qualified
candidate is not hired from the internal pool of applicants, the external
applicant pool is then reviewed by HR and qualified applicants will be referred
to the hiring manager for the position.
Q: Can I list volunteer/internship
experience as a job?
A: You
may list your volunteer/internship experience in the employment section of the
online resume. Please remember to
describe your specific responsibilities/duties for your volunteer/internship
assignment, much like you would for a paid position.
Q: Can I complete the online application in
which I provide a summary of my work experience, skills, and knowledge but don’t
list my employers chronologically?
A: The
UCSD On-line Application is a chronological resume. You may highlight your qualifications in
the “Additional Information” section of the online
application.
Q: When will I receive a response from UCSD
after I apply for a position?
A: While there are no definitive response
times regarding the status of your application for a particular position, you
can check the status of your application for positions through the UCSD
Applicant Toolkit, which is updated once screening and hiring decisions have
been made. Please note: If this the first time you submitted your
resume, you will not be able to access the Applicant Toolkit for up to three
business days as your resume is being reviewed and processed.
After three business days, you can
create a password and you will then have access to the Applicant
Toolkit.
Q:
Will the hiring department or Human
Resources contact me?
A:
If your online resume/application
has been referred for a position and you have been selected for an interview,
the hiring department will contact you to invite you for an
interview.
Q: Can I better my chances for interview or
hire if I contact the department directly?
A: Department hiring managers are
instructed to refer all job seekers to human resources per UCSD hiring
policy. To ensure UCSD’s commitment
to equal employment opportunity and fairness to all applicants, applicants must
wait to be contacted by hiring departments. If you are selected for an interview
by the hiring department, the hiring department will contact you.
