Under general supervision, as a member of an experimental oceanographic research group, responsible for organizing and assuring smooth laboratory operations in multi-faceted and special assignments with engineers, programmers and researchers. Duties include coordinating the purchase, incoming testing, inventory control, and stocking of oceanographic instruments and components. Keep calibrations of instruments up to date, maintain a database of calibrations and analyze it to ascertain whether repairs or replacement is required. Responsible for maintenance of an asset management system, tracking and control of purchases, and maintaining inventory of supplies, equipment, and scientific instruments. Specific tasks include coordination of international export and shipment of scientific equipment, and ensuring adherence to export restrictions and regulations, including the transport of hazardous materials. Coordinate purchases and shipping in order to maintain the rigidly scheduled production of mooring systems and the associated oceanographic and atmospheric instrumentation. Generate reports of inventory, instrument status and location, and financial status. Anticipate and prevent logistics problems.

~~May spend from one to four months at sea each year in remote locations and under adverse weather conditions.
Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and five years of technical and craft experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Computer skills and experience with MS Word, Excel, and/or other database,reporting, and word processing tools.
Excellent organizational and documentation skills to maintain the organization and records of lab supplies, equipment, and shipments.
Ability to communicate and interact effectively, verbally and orally, with vendors and scientific, technical, and administrative personnel.
Ability to work in a team environment. Must be able to deal effectively with vendors, shipping agents, lab, shipboard and support personnel.
Familiarity with concepts of physical oceanography and typical properties of sea water; laboratory procedures and documentation procedures obtained through college physical science lab classes or experience in a scientific laboratory.
Ability to read and comprehend mechanical drawings and/or electronic and electrical schematic drawings.
