Payroll Title : Assistant Vice Chancellor, (Functional Area). Salary Range: $92,000 - $160,000 /year

DESCRIPTION:
The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Contract and Grant Administration (AVC-CGA) provides leadership for the UCSD Office of Contract and Grant Administration (OCGA) and effective stewardship for the solicitation, negotiation, acceptance of sponsored funding from federal, state, local, private and foreign sources. The AVC-CGA represents UCSD in interactions with outside agencies, national organizations, local, state, and federal government agencies, and is a recognized expert, having a deep understanding of policies and procedures relating to sponsored project issues. S/he uses initiative and vision to champion and implement electronic solutions for all facets of the sponsored research process. S/he facilitates effective liaison with the UC Office of the President, UCSD Vice Chancellors, Schools, and academic units and conducts the highest level of analysis on regulations, policies, and procedures and their effect on sponsored projects. S/he assists the Vice Chancellor for Research in formulating policies and procedures and works effectively with the Office of the President's staff to develop UC positions and policies related to grant and contract administration in response to national and university concerns.

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Deep knowledge and understanding of the mission and role of contract and grant administration in a major research university.
* Demonstrated comprehensive business/legal knowledge of contract administration, legal analysis, legal drafting, and negotiation of legal agreements.
* Demonstrated exemplary negotiation and mediation skills and strategic thinking requisite for sustained, high-level interactions with federal agencies, for-profit industry and other private sector sponsors, including non-profit and foreign.
* Proven track record in implementing automated solutions for contract and grant management or championing their development and use in a research administration environment.
* Expert knowledge of federal and state policies, including research compliance requirements.
* In-depth knowledge of academic governance, organizational structures, and communication channels.
* Demonstrated leadership ability and management skills to lead a team of professional staff in a multi-functional, dynamic, fast-paced, technology-enriched, and ever-changing environment.
* Ability to develop and implement effective training, informational and educational programs and materials that promote understanding and compliance.
* Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and ability to achieve consensus on complex issues and sensitive issues. Strong and creative organizational and decision-making skills.

PREFERRED:
* Expert operational knowledge of research-related UCOP and UCSD administrative policies and practices or equivalent.
