Sr Exec Director Development Open Until Filled Development (100% Career) Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience
DESCRIPTION:
The Senior Executive Director of Development, General Campus has the primary responsibility to provide leadership and overall program strategy in planning, coordinating and implementing fund raising programs for the 10 General Campus units, including: Arts & Humanities, Biological Sciences, IR/PS, Jacobs School of Engineering, Physical Sciences, Preuss School, Rady School of Management, Social Sciences, Student Affairs, and University Libraries.

Coordinates with the Deans/Directors and with the SVC-Academic Affairs to assure that Development work is in accordance with academic priorities and policies. Provides strong leadership in strategizing and facilitating opportunities for major gift fund raising among the staff and carries a portfolio of top major gift prospects.

Creates an environment that will enhance communication and encourage collaboration between and among the General Campus, Central Development, and other Development and External Relations program areas. Oversees the management of program budgets in the respective divisions and the Senior EDOD’s office. Primary responsibility for the recruitment, training, evaluation, and retention of Directors of Development in all 10 units.

Participates in a core team to provide the Associate Vice Chancellor, University Development, to whom the Senior EDOD, General Campus, reports, with strategic insight and guidance regarding General Campus fundraising programs.

In addition, the incumbent has primary responsibility for managing the General Campus participation in comprehensive advancement campaign, as well as developing and implementing post-campaign fundraising strategies.

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Demonstrated success at raising funds by developing and implementing strategic solicitation fund raising plans that incorporate a concise definition of goals, targeted audiences, and strategies in-line with institution and academic goals in higher education and closing gifts ($100,000+) from individuals, corporations, and foundations, both local and national.
* Proven experience in the full spectrum of development including: gift policies, solicitations, stewardship, donor recognition, and administration.
* Progressive experience in fund-raising roles leading to opportunities to lead and manage individuals working in a different program and/or disciplinary roles.
* Proven success as development officer in a highly sophisticated donor-centered fund-raising environment as a direct-line fund-raiser.
* Demonstrated experience at creating and implementing a fundamental plan for successful capital campaigns, including feasibility studies, identification of campaign projects, establishment of priorities, strategy, cultivation and solicitation, negotiation, finalization of proposals and follow through, while providing leadership to Development staff.
* Demonstrated knowledge, accountability, and comprehension skills to formulate budgetary planning and prioritization of projects, programs and activities, using sound judgment while meeting organizational skills.
* Proven record of writing proposals for a significant project/gift ($100,000+) directed to individuals, foundations, and corporations.
* Demonstrated personnel management skills to provide guidance to maintain a strong team of players. Dispense appropriate disciplinary action when necessary. Ability to hire, train, supervise and evaluate staff. A good faith effort to advocate UCSD's affirmative action program when hiring individuals.
* Knowledge of public relations and marketing practices to provide direction to special programs for outreach to prospective and continuing donors.
* Access to transportation and willing to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends.
