Under general supervision, incumbent performs integral development, enhancement, and customization of the VELOS to EPIC Interfaces. Incumbent will gain in-depth knowledge of the VELOS CTMS SDK and relevant Epic EMR API's, and work closely with the VELOS Application Team, to understand business and research integration needs, translate them to technical specifications, program design, and implementation. Responsible for the testing, documentation, and maintenance of the code developed. Incumbent also plays an integral role in developing code to automate protocol uploads and various other data uploads to the Velos system or from other systems (e.g. RedCap, Credit) to the Velos system. Also develops code which will interface to the Velos Oracle Database, producing formatted reports for the purpose of agency reporting (e.g. NCI, NIH), financial reporting, electronic Case Report Forms (eCRF's), and other custom reports.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent related experience in order to perform the essential functions of the position.

  • Three (3) years programming experience in SQL or other comparable programming language, preferably in a large, complex healthcare environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Intermediate level capabilities with MS Access and MS SQL server.

  • Demonstrated, hands-on experience in building new data sets, master files, and reports; perform quality assurance testing and release new functionality to end-users and research protocols for retrieval of patient data. Ability to support system development, report specification/development, system maintenance/support, and ad hoc analysis.

  • Expertise in Clarity Data Model and IDX Claims Data Model and demonstrated ability to write SQL code, create views, reports, triggers and stored procedures. Demonstrated experience in database programming, which includes data access, data retrieval, data management, data analysis and data presentation.

  • Knowledge and intermediate level experience in Transact SQL, Crystal Reports 11, Cognos 8 reporting, OLAP structures, Reporting Workbench, Business Objects and others as identified during project development.

  • Demonstrated experience to download, install and test programming tools and create the needed development environment under tight deadlines and with limited staffing resources.

  • Strong analytical skills, including statistical analysis and demographic reporting, to analyze clinical operations, data collection, report details, and other technical issues associated with use of vendor software.

  • Advanced knowledge and demonstrated ability in specification development, quantitative methods, system documentation and change management.

  • Advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience with Database Administration (DBA) with Relational Database Management Systems (RDMS) such as MS SQL Server, DB2, and Oracle.

  • Demonstrated experience and skill in communicating clearly, in writing and formal presentations on highly technical programming issues, and collaborating with enterprise-wide IT staff to effectively and rapidly resolve program design and technical issues.

  • Advanced knowledge, experience and proven success in information systems development within a large-scale healthcare organization.


  • CERTIFIED in Epic Systems' clinical systems products, including EpicCare Ambulatory EMR and/or EpicCare Inpatient.
